Rats are misunderstood

Most people think rats are dirty, smelly, and that they carry diseases such as rabies and bubonic plague. This is untrue. Although the rats you see in pet stores are a little different than wild rats, they are alot alike too. The domestic rat (sometimes known as the fancy rat) is related to the norway rat, wich did not carry bubonic plague, but helped get rid of the rats that did. A rat can not carry rabies because they are so small, there brains shut down not long after being infected by it. Pet rats do not bite, are very clean, and make great pets. They are social, friendly, and very inteligent also. They make good pets for people who can't have a dog but want something with a similar personality.
